Apple Crunch Day

National Farm to School Month took place in October by school districts, early care and education facilities, farmers, and organizations around the state. Activities included visiting local farms, honoring PA Preferred Days, providing local food for school lunches, and much more! The PA Farm to School Network highlighted Ridley Elementary Schools in their participation in the Apple Crunch day!

Celebrated during National Apple Month, Apple Crunch promotes healthy snacking. The event encourages youth to eat apples, and apple products (applesauce, juice and cider) as a healthy snack.

The Ridley Elementary School’s held an Apple Crunch Day celebration. In the days leading up to the celebration, teachers included the kids in engaging classroom exercises that went over the numerous health advantages that apples offer. In the lunchroom, students tasted three different kinds of local apples and submitted their votes for their favorite. On October 20th, Apple Crunch Day, the winning apple went out to each student, teacher and employee in the elementary school building!
