Ridley School District is coming together on Thursday, March 21st to commemorate World Down Syndrome Day in a vibrant and inclusive way. Students and staff are encouraged to wear colorful socks, symbolizing their commitment to raising awareness and promoting acceptance for individuals with Down syndrome.
World Down Syndrome Day is a global awareness day that aims to raise public awareness about Down syndrome, a genetic condition that occurs when a person has a full or partial extra copy of chromosome 21. The day also seeks to advocate for the rights, inclusion, and well-being of people with Down syndrome.
Lots of Socks Campaign: This campaign symbolizes the extra chromosome that people with Down Syndrome carry, making them unique. Wearing colorful, mismatched, or extra socks is a simple way to show support and spark conversations about diversity and inclusion.
From bright polka dots to striped patterns and everything in between, the colorful socks served as a visual representation of the school community's support for individuals with Down syndrome.
